Tell Congressmen and Senators NO to McConnell Plan on Raising the Debt Ceiling
Obama Using Motto "Never Waste A Crisis"
EPA Compliance Will Cost One Electric Company $6 to $8 billion & 600 Jobs
The following headlines in the last week caught my attention and made my blood boil as our nation is in a crisis over raising the Debt Ceiling. "Hundreds endure heat for help in paying electricity bills" and "EPA tells coal-fired plants: Reduce pollution or shut down." While thousands and thousands of citizens across the nation are suffering in triple degree weather, many with their utility bills already shut off, our government is busy increasing the price of electricity to such a degree that more and more people will suffer and even be forced to accept more welfare from the government. http://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2011/jul/12/hundreds-endure-heat-help-20110712/?news-arkansas and http://www.tbd.com/articles/2010/09/thousands-apply-for-help-on-utility-bills-in-dc-8088.html
American Electric Company in Ohio reported: "Because of the unrealistic compliance timelines in the EPA proposals, we will have to prematurely shut down nearly 25 percent of our current coal-fueled generating capacity, cut hundreds of good power plant jobs, and invest billions of dollars in capital to retire, retrofit and replace coal-fueled power plants. The sudden increase in electricity rates and impacts on state economies will be significant at a time when people and states are still struggling," said Michael G. Morris, AEP chairman and chief executive officer... AEP expects a net loss of approximately 600 power plant jobs with annual wages totaling approximately $40 million as a result of compliance with the proposed EPA rules... The cost of AEP's compliance plan could range from $6 billion to $8 billion in capital investment through the end of the decade. High demand for labor and materials due to a constrained compliance time frame could drive actual costs higher than these estimates. http://www.wvva.com/Global/story.asp?S=14875222
Remember Obama said, "Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket." Now Obama is so arrogant as to say Social Security checks may not go out when he holds thousand of other choices in his hands that he could use to relieve citizens of the pain they are experiencing rather than adding to that pain. And the Democrats claim to be the party of the poor. Beside Obama was being untruthful about the Social Security checks. http://eddriscoll.com/archives/014260.php Also on You Tube
Obama is following Rahm Emanuel, President Obama’s former Chief of Staff, and Mouthpiece who said, "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste." Obama is using this economic crisis of the debt ceiling to try to force tax increases. While attention is on this crisis, he is doing all kinds of things behind the scene that is getting no attention. He is also using the so called crisis of global warming to increase electricity prices - increased electricity prices that is like a hidden tax. Many of us will pay double - our electricity costs plus the cost of those who get government tax money to help them with their bills. That becomes another form of redistribution of wealth and causes more and more people to become dependent on the government.
Following is a quote by Hillary Clinton on You Tube at the European Parliament in Brussels on March , 2009. I wonder how many people who can't pay their electric bill, who are unemployed, and who have lost their homes are excited about the economy as Hillary Clinton is.
I'm actually excited by this opportunity. I'm very well aware that we are not yet through this economic crisis but the chief of staff for President Obama is an old friend of mine and my husband's and was in the White House when Bill was there. And he said, you know, never waste a good crisis, and when it comes to the economic crisis don't waste it when it can have a very positive impact on climate change and energy security. And that's what we're trying to do. http://spectator.org/blog/2009/07/03/hillary-clinton-never-waste-a#
Other headlines I came across recently:
"Surprises for Environmental and Sustainability Education in the President's Budget." Excerpts from that article follow: "The President's FY2011 was released a few days ago, with several surprises for environmental and sustainability education. These unexpected new programs at NSF, DOE and ED are very positive signals from the Administration about their interest in our work... Science, Engineering, and Education for Sustainability (SEES) is a major new NSF-wide initiative funded at $765.5 million (a 16% increase over last year) by pulling funds from across different NSF directorates. It intends to integrate NSF’s work in climate and energy science and engineering to generate the discoveries and tools needed to “inform societal actions that lead to environmental and economic sustainability." Effective Teaching and Learning for A Well-Rounded Education" would receive $265 million, an increase of $38.9 million, or 17 percent, over last year... The RE-ENERGYSE (Regaining our Energy Science and Engineering Edge) program is a comprehensive federal education initiative focused on educating for the clean energy sector at universities, community and technical colleges, and K-12 schools. RE-ENERGYSE will be coordinated by DOE and NSF, beginning with an initial investment of $74 million in clean energy-related education." And there are other figures named in this article. http://fundee.typepad.com/fundee/2010/02/surprises-for-environmental-and-sustainability-education-in-the-presidents-budget.html
"Obama Administration to Honor ‘Green’ Schools That Teach ‘Environmental Literacy’" dated May 16, 2011. "Next year on Earth Day, the Obama administration plans to announce which US schools have been selected as 'Green Ribbon Schools,' a designation that will "honor' schools for 'creating healthy and sustainable learning environments' and for 'teaching environmental literacy," is the first paragraph. "The U.S. Energy Department says it intends to 'promote energy literacy' to achieve the Obama administration's national energy goals, the article continues.
"State and Federal Officials Applaud Los Angeles School for its Adoption of State’s Environmental Curriculum" "This landmark curriculum will expand environmental literacy at a time when protecting our environment is paramount...The curriculum includes 85-units of environment-based education in the traditional subjects of Science and History/Social Science for grades K-12." [California, that good old bastion of conservatism, wanted to be the model but Maryland beat them to the draw, becoming the first state to require environmental literacy statewide for graduation.] http://www.calepa.ca.gov/Pressroom/Releases/2011/LAAdoptEEI.pdf
All this money is being spent when unemployment is almost 10%, people are losing their homes, people can't pay their electric bills, and only 32% say global warming is a threat in their lifetime according to a Gallop poll July 13, 2011.
A good headline:
The incidents above are just a drop in a bucket of all the money Obama and the Democrats have wasted. Every penny of Obama's $787 billion economic stimulus bill has gone to programs to promote his agenda like those listed above. Now he is acting so self righteous and pretending the Republicans are to blame for the problems in our country.
Our Republicans should be bringing one example of Obama's spending to the forefront every day in this battle over the debt ceiling rather than concentrating on social security and Medicare. Yes, social security and Medicare will need to be dealt with, but people need to know about all these crazy costly programs. They should be dealt with first.
We receive emails every day that we could take and turn into a letter to the editor. And we the citizens should be helping them by writing letters to the editor and getting information out to everyone, not just the people we communicate with online. If we can't be bold enough and concerned enough to write a letter to the editor and sign our name to it to get this information out, then we have no right to complain about what our Republicans are doing because they face the heat of the vicious liberal media every day. We can support them by sending them emals and calling them so they will have the number of calls and emails to back them up when they do make their decisions and by calling and emailing the Democrats to let them know how many of us disagree with their stand.
Below is a description of the McConnell plan according to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Obama and Pelosi have said they could possibly agree with the plan. That is enough said for me to know it is a bad plan. Many other conservatives agree that it is a bad plan. It appears other better plans are in the works. Personally, I agree with Michelle Bachman who says, "I will not vote to raise the debt ceiling."
"McConnell’s plan would let the president raise the limit in three stages unless Congress disapproves by a two-thirds majority, and Obama would also be required to propose offsetting spending cuts. The spending reductions would be advisory, and the debt ceiling increase would occur regardless of whether lawmakers enact the cuts, McConnell said. Don Stewart, a spokesman for McConnell, said the plan would allow Obama to raise the debt limit while putting the onus on him and congressional Democrats to cut spending. At the same time, Republicans wouldn’t have to agree to tax increases. The proposal would force Democrats to cast multiple votes to raise the debt ceiling before the next election while giving Republicans the chance to vote against it without risking a default.
